Korotkin Insurance Group (KIG) in Southfield has been acquired by New York-based EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

KIG is a fifth-generation independent brokerage with more than a century of operational history in Michigan. The firm states it brings a strong regional presence and specialized expertise across multiple industries and client segments to EPIC’s growing national platform.

EPIC is a national insurance brokerage and consulting firm supporting clients across specialized industries and services. The acquisition establishes an EPIC presence in Detroit and builds on the firm’s existing footprint in Grand Rapids.

KIG is expected to serve as a key anchor for the firm’s continued growth in Michigan and the broader region. It has established practices serving clients across for-hire transportation, family entertainment centers, real estate and fitness franchises, as well as private client and small business adding depth to EPIC’s specialty-focused business model, according to EPIC.

“KIG represents exactly the type of organization we look for as we continue building EPIC — a firm with deep expertise, longstanding client relationships and a strong presence in its market,” says Tom P’Neil, vice chairman of EPIC. “Their longevity is a testament to the strength of the business and the trust they’ve built with clients and their community. By bringing KIG onto EPIC’s national platform, we have an opportunity to build on that foundation while creating even more capabilities and opportunities for their clients and team.”

The firm, led by Emily M. Korotkin, Jeffrey S. Belen, JJ Reifler, Kyle Fenton, and Matt H. Warsh, join EPIC as managing principals to use its platform and expanded solutions for clients, particularly across specialized business segments.

“EPIC’s culture, resources, and expertise made the decision to join the firm clear,” says Korotkin. “Together, we’ll be able to expand opportunities for our employees, deepen the capabilities available to our clients and continue building on the foundation of trust and service that has driven KIG’s success.”

As part of EPIC, KIG clients are expected to gain access to a broader range of insurance and risk management capabilities, additional specialty resources, deeper carrier relationships, and enhanced technology.

The combination also should create opportunities to bring EPIC’s employee benefits and other complementary solutions to KIG’s commercial clients while preserving the local relationships, community involvement, and client service that have defined KIG for generations.

“At EPIC, our strongest partnerships begin with outstanding people, a shared commitment to culture, and specialized expertise, and KIG embodies all three,” says Dan Grelecki, president of EPIC’s Midwest region.

“While this partnership creates exciting opportunities to expand our Michigan footprint, our investment is ultimately in the people who have built such a successful organization. We look forward to what we can accomplish together.”
