Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace today opened a new 48,000-square-foot gourmet fresh food store next to Schoolcraft College in Livonia that also serves as an educational hub for students.

Located at 18700 Haggerty Rd., south of Seven Mile Road, the new marketplace features a vast array of fresh produce, meats, a bakery, wine and beer from Michigan and around the world, floral offerings, foods to-go, and a café.

Founded by the late Nino Salvaggio in 1979, the company operates four other gourmet markets — Bloomfield Township, Clinton Township, St. Clair Shores, and Troy.

Today, the markets are run by Salvaggio’s children, Leo Salvaggio, Andrea (daughter) and Frank Nicolella.

“For generations, our family has been committed to bringing the finest quality foods, exceptional service, and a true neighborhood market experience to the communities we serve,” says Co-owner Frank Nicolella.

“What started as a small produce stand has grown into a destination marketplace, but our values remain the same — honoring our heritage, supporting local partners, and treating every customer like family.”

The Livonia marketplace was designed with a focus on premium products and guest experiences, and includes:

— A broad selection of gourmet and specialty goods, fresh produce, and foods to-go, along with Michigan-Made and Nino Salvaggio branded items;

— A café featuring a sit-down dining experience;

— A large selection of local, national, and international wines and beers;

— A full range of meats and chef-inspired offerings;

— Flowers and seasonal floral selections;

Through a partnership with Schoolcraft College, the Livonia location will serve as a hands-on learning environment for students, providing training and professional experience in a real marketplace setting.

“We’re especially excited about our new partnership with Schoolcraft College, which reflects two things that have always been important to us — exceptional food and investing in our community’s future,” says Leo Salvaggio, co-owner and president.

“This collaboration allows us to create meaningful, real-world learning opportunities for students. By working alongside our team, students can gain hands-on experience in a dynamic marketplace environment — from culinary preparation to customer service and operations.”

Students will have opportunities connected to programs such as Culinary Arts and Supply Chain Management, among others, while supporting career development in areas like food preparation, customer service, operations, and retail logistics.

“We are thrilled to partner with Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace in a collaboration that truly bridges classroom learning with real-world application,” says Glenn Cerny, president of Schoolcraft College. “Experiential opportunities like this are invaluable to our students.

“This partnership allows them to apply what they learn in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while building practical skills, gaining meaningful industry experience, and exploring diverse career pathways.”

A formal grand opening celebration, with local dignitaries, is being planned for in the coming weeks.
