KLA Corp., a leader in the development of equipment and services for the manufacturing of semiconductors based in Milpitas, Calif., announced the official opening of its headquarters in Ann Arbor, its second in the U.S.

The $200 million facility, announced in 2018, opens with a locally based leadership team and more than 300 employees with plans for an additional 300 hires over the next 12 to 18 months. It is home to the company’s AI Center of Excellence where machine learning applications help advance semiconductor manufacturing.

The six-story, 230,000-square-foot building was designed as a sustainable campus. Situated in a forest, the structure features a state-of-the-art green roof and an atrium. Other amenities include a woodland trail, an onsite cafeteria, a coffee shop, a fitness center, and electric vehicle charging stations for employees.

Also constructed on the campus is a 51,000-square-foot clean room to support the R&D of KLA’s semiconductor manufacturing tools used around the world. Corporate functions operating from the campus include supply chain, procurement, IT, finance, legal and HR.

“Michigan has proven to offer impressive and diverse talent, rich cultural life, scenic surroundings and proximity to university and automotive partners,” says Rick Wallace, president and CEO of KLA.

“Our Ann Arbor headquarters will not only play a critical role in serving the growing demands of our global customer base, but also in driving our mission to advance humanity. At KLA Ann Arbor, the future is ours to create.”

Founded 45 years ago, KLA has been part of many significant technological breakthroughs. Virtually every smartphone, laptop, or smart car passes through a KLA machine, with 59,000 of its tools in use worldwide. It employs more than 12,000 people in 19 countries and earned more than $6 billion in revenue in calendar year 2020.
