Jenoptik Automotive, a German manufacturer and system provider of laser technologies and measuring systems, will build a $15 million technical center in Rochester Hills. The facility is expected to be completed in spring 2017.

Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett says the 100,000-square-foot building will be located on 15 acres of property along Hamlin Road between Crooks and South Livernois roads. Jenoptik Automotive purchased the property from the city for nearly $2.4 million.

David Kruise, a spokesman for Jenoptik Automotive, says the facility will eventually replace Jenoptik’s current North American headquarters in Rochester Hills, located at 1505 W. Hamlin Rd. He says the new facility will be home to 120 employees, with plans to hire 30 new employees in technical positions like mechanical engineers, among others.

Jenoptik Automotive, which has been operating in Rochester Hills since 2007, manufactures and provides measurement and laser processing systems for manufacturing processes in the automotive industry.

The company’s metrology portfolio can be used to measure roughness, contour, and form, as well as determine dimensions. Jenoptik also develops 3-D laser systems and machines that are integrated into production lines used for processing plastics, metals, and leather.
