The GMC brand of General Motors Co. in Detroit has taken the wraps off the next-generation 2027 GMC Sierra 1500, ahead of the expected launch later this year. The automaker is calling it the “most advanced, luxurious, and powerful” version of the truck.
Led by the flagship Denali Ultimate and off‑road AT4X, the Sierra 1500 features new exterior and interior designs, digital display, trailering technologies, and offers a powertrain lineup including two new V-8 engines, a diesel, and an enhanced TurboMax engine.
“With the next-generation Sierra 1500, we’re bringing together a new generation of small block V-8 power, precise off-road capability, and our most immersive cabin experience to date,” says Michael MacPhee, global vice president of Buick and GMC. “Denali Ultimate and AT4X solidify Sierra as the most powerful, most advanced and most luxurious trucks we’ve ever built.”
Spearheaded by the introduction of sixth-generation small block V-8 engines offered in 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter displacements, the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is designed to provide customers with a powertrain for every need, lifestyle, and preference.
The new V-8 engines incorporate advances in combustion, cooling, and control systems that enhance refinement and performance while reinforcing Sierra’s on- and off-road durability. A new fuel injection system helps optimize power, torque, and overall performance across a wide range of driving scenarios – from daily driving to rock crawling and towing.
The Sierra 1500 lineup also will feature an enhanced TurboMax and Duramax diesel. The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 will pair all available engines with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
“The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is an uncompromising, no-excuses truck which was purpose-built to conquer any task with an unmatched level of refinement, precision and capability,” says Mark Dickens, executive chief engineer for full-size trucks and SUVs.
“Not only have we engineered these trucks to be incredibly fun to drive, but they’ll provide customers with the versatility to haul with confidence, tow with command, head off-road with conviction, and arrive to dinner in style.”
The 2027 Sierra 1500 introduces an all-new exterior with machine precision forms, and a more powerful stance on the road. Features include the evolution of the signature headlamps and taillamps with available welcome and farewell animations, GMC signature WOM lights, a more vertical grille, available quad exhaust outlets, and other trim specific details provide the truck a bold, confident presence.
Inside, the new Sierra 1500 offers completely redesigned interiors across every trim level, with exclusive colorways, premium materials, and Sierra first innovations. Highlights include available real wood trim accents, forged wood on the Denali Ultimate, available panoramic sunroof, and best-in-class standard crew cab front head and leg room.
The available all‑new MultiPro center console with expanded functionality and storage solutions is designed to support everyday use. The console opens to create an extended work surface and allows easy access to available USB charge ports without compromising the clean, premium appearance or comfort customers expect for long-distance travel.
The 2027 Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate advances GMC’s flagship full‑size pickup with premium comfort features, standard V-8 power, exclusive design details, and a cabin centered on technology and refinement.
Under the hood, Denali Ultimate features a standard 6.6-liter V-8.
Inside, Denali Ultimate features more than 60 inches of combined digital displays, the most in its class, including:
- A new, largest in class 16.3‑inch diagonal infotainment screen positioned for easy reach and visibility with class exclusive articulation and storage.
- A largest in class 11.5‑inch diagonal front passenger screen with articulating cover, that offers the passenger media and entertainment functions.
- A 12.2‑inch diagonal Driver Information Center featuring a modern and intuitive look, while delivering configurable vehicle information directly in the driver’s line of sight.
- A 15-inch diagonal multicolor Head Up Display (HUD) which projects key information, including speed, navigation, and available driver assistance alerts, onto the windshield to help provide a more confident driving experience.
- An 8.5-inch diagonal Rear Camera Mirror can provide a wider, less obstructed view behind the vehicle than a traditional mirror, which can be helpful when the bed or rear seats are loaded for additional visibility.
The 2027 Sierra 1500 AT4X features new hardware and function specifically chosen for the most demanding terrains, and represents the brand’s most off-road capable Sierra AT4X ever.
Key AT4X capability highlights include:
- A Sierra first 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, engineered for traction and durability in challenging off‑road conditions.
- New Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, tuned to help manage high‑speed off‑road impacts and rough surfaces while maintaining precision, control, and composure.
- Front and rear e-locking differentials (e‑lockers), a combination not offered on any competitor in its class – working with different drive modes to help optimize traction on a variety of surfaces.
The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 lineup also will include Pro, Elevation, AT4, and Denali, each offering a distinct combination of signature design, advanced technology, and premium capability, specifically engineered to deliver a tailored experience aligned with how customers work, explore, and drive.
The first 2027 Sierra 1500 models are expected to arrive at GMC dealerships before the end of the 2026 calendar year. Additional information on the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500, including full design, feature, and performance details across the lineup, will be released ahead of the vehicle’s on‑sale date.

In Other GM News: Chevrolet is reintroducing its iconic “Heartbeat of America” advertising campaign from the 1980s and ‘90s. Reimagined with the sounds of The Red Clay Strays, a rock band from Mobile, Ala., the campaign takes a modern creative approach while still reminiscent of the original version.
The song incorporates the real heartbeat sounds of Americans across the country in Texas, Detroit, and Kansas as a way to celebrate those who represent the heartbeat of America, and are making an impact in their own communities.
In time for America’s 250th anniversary, the new campaign marks an evolution of a Chevrolet tagline that reflects the brand’s connection to the country. Running consistently from 1986 to 1993, “Heartbeat of America” is one of Chevrolet’s most recognizable campaigns and has been recreated by numerous artists over the years.
“‘Heartbeat of America’ has always celebrated Chevrolet’s connection to the people and communities that shape this country,” says Steve Majoros, chief marketing officer of Global Chevrolet. “Chevrolet owners have always been the people that show up, the DIYers, the helpful neighbors — the true heartbeat in their communities. This campaign honors our customers.”
Scenes for the commercial were filmed in Texas and in Maine, and include the Chevrolet Bolt, Trax, Equinox, Equinox EV, Traverse, Colorado, Silverado, and Silverado HD.
The “Heartbeat of America” revival is part of the brand’s broader America 250 initiative — a yearlong campaign that honors the people, places, and values that continue to shape the nation.
