Detroit Manufacturing Systems, and its advanced manufacturing arm, Kinetyc, have been named an official contract manufacturing partner for Voltaic Marine, a producer of electric powered boats in Beaverton, Ore. (west of Portland).
The partnership entails teams from Kinetyc, which is based in Wixom, and Voltaic Marine completing an early production model on the path to producing electric-powered vessels for the water sports and the recreational boating markets.
Full-scale commercial production is scheduled to launch in 2026. In recent years, sales in the electric marine sector have ridden a steady wave of growth.
Founded in 2023, Voltaic Marine Inc. has created aluminum-hulled electric boats “built for power, capability, and all-day range.” Its flagship model, the AEW24, is equipped with a 570 hp motor and a 300 kWh battery.
“This is more than a manufacturing contract, it’s a shared mission to electrify the future of maritime,” says Bruce Smith, chairman and CEO of Detroit Manufacturing Systems. “Voltaic brings game-changing marine innovation, and we bring the manufacturing muscle and precision to bring it to life at scale.”
Partnering with DMS and Kinetyc is a major milestone for Voltaic, says Richard Phamdo, founder and CEO of Voltaic Marine. “Their manufacturing strength and shared focus on quality and innovation put us in a strong position to scale with purpose. This is how we move the marine industry forward.”
DMS, a Detroit-based Tier-1 supplier, produces millions of parts annually. The company has more than 1,700 employees.
