Gallagher-Kaiser Corp. in Troy, a privately owned turn-key supplier of paint finishing systems, commercial HVAC, and mechanical automotive systems, has acquired Novi-based Commerce Controls Inc., a leader in providing turnkey solutions for controls systems in automotive, water, wastewater, and other industrial applications throughout North America.

The two companies have worked closely together for decades, from complete turnkey paint shop projects to a Kais-Air Desiccant Dehumidification Unit. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We have steadily and strategically grown the Gallagher-Kaiser enterprise in an effort to control our own destiny,” says Tracy Roberts, president and COO of Gallagher-Kaiser. “Similar to our previous acquisitions and startup ventures, we wanted to not only minimize the risk associated with an essential piece within our projects, but to diversify into other markets.

“Going forward, we can now provide the controls for mission critical customers such as battery and chip manufacturers, data center providers, and more.”

Like Gallagher-Kaiser, Commerce Controls has remained a privately owned business since inception.

“I’m excited to add the talented team at CCI to our growing Gallagher-Kaiser family. Their expertise fits seamlessly within our organization. … Their skillset is an essential piece to both our products and projects,” says Bob Kaiser, owner and CEO of Gallagher-Kaiser. “They are the best at what they do, and with this purchase, we will bolster their existing success with the power of the Gallagher-Kaiser enterprise behind them.”

The acquisition of CCI comes on the heels of an announcement in June, in which the Kais-Air division of Gallagher-Kaiser received the exclusive license to manufacture, design, and sell U.K.-based BladeRoom Group Ltd. products in North America.

This partnership came shortly after the Kais-Air team moved to their 190,000-square-foot office and manufacturing campus in Holly. The facility has gone through extensive renovations to support growth from the BRG product line.

Kais-Air takes advantage of Gallagher-Kaiser’s existing expertise in modular fabrication and provides an opportunity to diversify the enterprise. Much of the data center work is considered “mission critical” to require consideration for confidentiality, schedule, and quality.

As a General Motors Co. strategic sourcing partner, Gallagher-Kaiser is equipped to handle projects of this nature.

Founded in 1952, Gallagher-Kaiser has its headquarters in Troy, along with manufacturing facilities in Detroit and Holly, and offices in Monterrey, Mexico and Ontario, Canada.

Kais-AIR is a division of Gallagher-Kaiser, while Universal Piping Industries is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gallagher-Kaiser, as is Commerce Controls.
