Illinois-based Heartland Dental has acquired Tru Family Dental in Southfield, a dental support organization with 10 offices in Illinois and 13 in Michigan. The all-cash transaction closed Monday. No other terms of the deal were released.

Heartland Dental supports more than 1,700 dentists in more than 1,100 offices across 38 states by providing non-clinical administrative support. It offers assistance with human resources, marketing, information technology, supplies, insurance credentialing, accounting, and more. The company also offers dentists and hygienists continuing education programs and leadership development opportunities.

“We believe our similar doctor-led and patient-focused organizations are well-aligned for mutual success,” says Patrick Bauer, president and CEO of Heartland Dental.

Naimish Patel and Brandon Halcott, co-founders of Tru Family, say Heartland will continue to support the Tru Dental philosophy in adhering to clinical autonomy for its doctors.

“Being new to dentistry, we built a great rapport over the years with the Heartland Dental leadership team in order to learn from them,” Patel says. “Their commitment to clinical autonomy and doctor leadership is aligned with ours. Supported doctors can now take advantage of Heartland Dental resources, which would have taken us years or even decades to perfect on our own.”

Tru Family was founded in 2014. Heartland Dental is majority owned by KKR, a global investment firm based in New York.
