Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn reported February vehicle sales of 158,675, down 8.9 percent from the same month in 2024. That follows a January report of a 6.3 percent decrease in overall sales, compared to the previous year.

The February slowdown can be traced to the automaker’s dealers focusing on selling older products and re-tooling its Kentucky assembly plant for the next generation of Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs.

“In 2025, we expect to make significantly more progress on our two biggest areas of opportunity — quality and cost — as we enter the heart of our Ford+ transformation,” said Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, at the end of 2024. “We control those key profit drivers, and I am confident that we are on the right path to create long-term value for all our stakeholders.”

Trucks once again led the way for Ford in February, selling 91,735 units, up 7.7 percent from last February with F-Series contributing 59,310 sales to the total, Ford’s highest selling model.

The Explorer SUV was the next-best-selling vehicle, posting 15,071 sales, down 23.2 percent. Seven hundred and ninety-seven of the discontinued Edge SUVs sold in February, which was down 94 percent from last year.

Ford sold 2,792 Mustangs during the month, down 32.2 percent. Lincoln’s SUVs sold 6,754 units, down 20.5 percent.

Overall, 135,592 Ford internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles were sold in February, down 12.7 percent from last year. Hybrid electric vehicles jumped 27.5 percent compared to February 2024, from 12,045 sales to 15,357. Pure electric vehicle sales increased 15 percent from 6,368 in February 2024 to 7,326 in 2025. Mustang Mach-E led the charge with 3,312 sales.
