Macomb Community College in Warren has announced it raised $18 million as part of its Transforming Tomorrows fundraising campaign, exceeding the $15 million goal.
The campaign will support four priorities: student access and success, academic and workforce development, technology and innovation, and arts and culture. The five-year campaign that was launched in July 2021, concluded in June 2026.
“The success of the Transforming Tomorrows campaign highlights the shared commitment of employees, retirees, community members ,and funders to Macomb Community College’s mission, enhancing the capability and capacity of the college while providing essential financial support that assists individual students in achieving success and completing their degree,” says Diane Banks, director of the Macomb Community College Foundation.
“It also reflects the trust donors have in Macomb to strategically use resources to do the right thing at the right time to help our residents and community successfully navigate in times of rapidly escalating change.”
Campaign highlights include:
- Support from Macomb Community College employees and retirees: $5.2 million
- Largest individual contribution in Macomb’s history from the estate of Shirley Glass, a longtime accounting professor at the college: $3.2 million
- 39 percent growth in endowment: $45 million
- 1,467 percent increase in Greatest Need Fund: $4.7 million
“I realize that scholarships I received meant much more than simply helping with tuition or expenses as they gave me a sense that someone I had never met believed in me,” says Vincent Vitale, 27, a college alumnus from Macomb Township who spoke at a recent campaign celebration for donors.
“Someone believed that my education was worth investing in; someone believed that I had the potential to do something meaningful with that opportunity.”
Vitale is currently completing his bachelor’s degree in accounting at Walsh College in Troy while working at a local CPA firm.
Macomb Community College grants the largest number of associate degrees in Michigan, and is the largest community college in the state.
The college provides programming for youth through seniors, including early college for high school students, university transfer and career preparation programs, workforce education, continuing education and certification, and a wide range of enrichment opportunities encompassing arts, culture, and lifelong learning.
