LIV Golf may cancel the Michigan Team Championship event scheduled to be played Aug. 27-30 at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth Township. The development was first reported by Flushing It Golf.

The future of the once breakaway golf league has been in doubt since the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund announced in April it would stop financing LIV Golf. The fund had invested more than $5 billion into LIV Golf since the league launched in 2022.

In May, Reuters reported that LIV Golf officials said they needed $350 million to keep the league going. To date, there’s been no announcement about the capital raise.

According to The Detroit News, seating and hospitality infrastructure hasn’t arrived on the site.

Saint John’s Resort had reserved its entire facility for LIV Golf for that time period. The 2025 LIV Michigan Team Golf Championship at Saint John’s was a success.

As of Tuesday, tickets for this year’s event were still available for purchase at livgolf.com.

There are two scheduled events on the LIV schedule — LIV Golf New York at Trump Bedminster (Aug. 6-9) and LIV Golf Indianapolis at the Club at Chatham Hills (Aug. 20-23).

With LIV Golf’s future in question and 2026 being the last year of this week’s Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club, metro Detroit will be without a professional golf tournament for the first time in eight years in 2027.
