JVIS, a product developer and supplier, has launched JVIS Defense & Aerospace, a dedicated business established to advance defense innovation, engineering, and manufacturing in Michigan.
The company marked the opening Tuesday of its new Tech Center in Auburn Hills while highlighting its first defense contract supporting the U.S. Army’s Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) in Warren.
The launch event showcased JVIS Defense & Aerospace’s portfolio, including progress on its “Silent Watch” Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). As military platforms rely on ever-growing power demands from advanced electronics, the “Silent Watch” APU uses standard military fuel and fuel-cell technology to deliver quiet, safe, efficient, low-signature power that enhances survivability and mission effectiveness.
JVIS Defense also plans to expand its defense manufacturing capabilities across the state to support the nation’s defense, advance innovation and commercialization of defense programs, and add jobs.
“Michigan built the Arsenal of Democracy once, and we intend to build it again. Today is about bringing defense work, and the good-paying jobs that come with it, back to Michigan, where the engineering talent and manufacturing know-how have been all along,” says Alan Wagner, managing director of JVIS Defense & Aerospace.
Overall, JVIS Defense & Aerospace was established to support defense-specific activities and programs, giving it a dedicated team, facility, and focus.
The Tech Center will serve as a working hub where the company develops, matures, and commercializes defense programs, moving them from concept toward production.
The Tech Center will create new jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and technical roles, and has the potential to add more than 1,000 new jobs serving Macomb and Oakland counties, including high-tech jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and support roles, as well as jobs in manufacturing and assembly, according to the company.
“This Tech Center is the first phase of our expansion,” says Jason Murar, president of JVIS. “In the coming months and over the next year, we’ll announce additional steps to expand our manufacturing footprint for these remarkable technologies we’re developing for both government and commercial applications, and to create new jobs for the state of Michigan.”
The Tech Center launch was made possible, in part, by the work of a bi-partisan coalition of Michigan’s congressional leaders“Michigan has the manufacturing expertise and hardworking people our military needs,” says Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI). “I’m proud to support efforts that strengthen our national defense, bring good-paying jobs to Michigan, and ensure our manufacturers have a role in building the technologies that keep our warfighters safe.”
U.S. Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI) said: “Investments like this new technology center (drive) the development of next-generation defense technologies, creating good-paying Michigan jobs, and strengthening our national security. By bringing together Michigan’s world-class workforce, manufacturing expertise, and robust defense sector, we’re helping to ensure our state remains at the forefront of American defense innovation for years to come.”
