JoJo’s ShakeBar, a modern take on a classic diner, will open this summer on Columbia Street just south of the Fox Theatre in The District Detroit. The restaurant will offer milkshakes like Cupid’s Cocoa, craft cocktails, and familiar diner fare.

The ‘80s- and ‘90s-inspired diner will be adorned with murals of celebrities with milk mustaches, Pac-man cocktail tables, and same-sider booths.

“We are enthusiastic about what JoJo’s ShakeBar will add to the great variety of dining, shopping, and events already in The District Detroit,” says Stefan Stration, vice president of development at Olympia Development of Michigan, part of Ilitch Holdings Inc.

“Having original concepts like JoJo’s ShakeBar, along with sports and entertainment, office, residential, educational, community spaces, and much more, The District Detroit offers something for everybody in an appealing, one-of-a-kind atmosphere.”

The menu at JoJo’s ShakeBar offers “Biggie Shakes” that include the Gold Digger, a caramel toffee shake with toffee dodo, gold star marshmallow, toffee pretzel, macadamia nut cookie, and Old Forester bourbon; the Rocky IV, a banana Reese’s Pieces shake with toffee marshmallow, a white chocolate boxing glove, peanut butter cookie, and Jameson Irish whiskey; and more.

Other fare includes fries topped with shredded mozzarella, provolone, cheddar, bacon, chives, and sour cream; Loaded Grilled Cheese, a five-cheese blend, bacon, and roasted tomato on challah bread; and The Codfather, a piece of beer battered cod, coleslaw, pickles, and tartar sauce on a brioche bun; and more.

There’s also an onion ring tower, multiple salads including the Brussel Crowe, soups, sandwiches such as the Uncle Rueben, walking taco, smash burger, Momma’s Lasagna, and other offerings.

The new restaurant will occupy a 3,480 square feet of space on Columbia Street set between the historic Fox Theatre and the Little Caesars world headquarters, and across Woodward Avenue from Comerica Park.

“We are super excited to be opening JoJo’s in The District Detroit,” says Robbie Schloss, partner at Castle Hospitality Group. “We are pulling out all the stops to bring a special experience that the community can enjoy.”

JoJo’s ShakeBar operates two locations in Chicago — Water Tower Kiosk and River North — and in downtown Naperville, Ill. (the latter site west of Chicago opens on Feb. 15).

In recent months, The District Detroit has added Union Assembly, Mom’s Spaghetti, Frita Batidos, Tin Roof, and The M Den, as well as the soon to be opened Detroit House of Comedy in the City Theatre inside the Hockeytown Café.
