Sciens Building Solutions in San Francisco, a division of Detroit-based private equity firm Huron Capital, has acquired Miami-based Empire Electric, Maintenance, and Service and Empire Fire Safety. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“We believe Empire is a great addition to the Sciens platform in a very important market,” says Terry Heath, CEO of Sciens. “Combined with our existing footprint in Florida, we can now easily serve customers throughout the entire state, providing an unparalleled level of local service.”

Heath says Huron Capital formed Sciens in 2016 to pursue a buy-and-build investment strategy in the fire detection and integrated solutions sector. The acquisition further increases the company’s Florida presence.

“Sciens’ strong technical expertise and suite of comprehensive building solutions combined with our outstanding capabilities will allow us to develop broader offerings for the market,” says Tony Hernandez, president of Empire, who will remain in his current role.

Empire was founded in 1988 and provides design, engineering, installation, compliance testing, maintenance, and monitoring for fire detection and suppression, as well as electrical systems. It serves the commercial, hospitality, health care, education, and residential markets. It has more than 100 employees.

Sciens offers design, installation, and provision of maintenance services for fire detection and clean-agent fire suppression systems in commercial, institutional, and government facilities.
