Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co. is launching a transformable dual cup holder design with the release of the new 2017 Ford Super Duty Pickup.
The design of the cup holder, which is located between the two front seats of the vehicle, has two main components — a combination cup holder and storage bin with an upper panel that slides to the left to transform the storage bin into two additional cup holders.
If a driver or passenger needs more open storage space, the panel can slide back to the right, clearing the way for items that won’t fit in a cup holder space.
The patented cup holder design will debut this fall on the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup, which can have as many as 10-cup holders with the dual cup holder.
“Hard working Super Duty customers love having cup holders and storage close at hand,” says Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manger.
There are five models in the Super Duty lineup — XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. Along with the new cup holder, the trucks will feature updated driver assist technologies, including adaptive cruise control, which allows the vehicle to automatically accelerate and slow to keep pace with traffic.
