Grand Rapids’ Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr, and Huber, an engineering, environmental sciences, architecture, and construction management firm, has acquired Northwest Consultants Inc., an infrastructure engineering services firm in Toledo. The acquisition closed July 27. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“This acquisition is a fantastic opportunity for both Fishbeck and NCI, and I am excited to welcome a new group of accomplished experts to the Fishbeck team,” says Jeff Schumaker, president and principal of Fishbeck. “NCI is a recognized leader in the industry with dedicated staff, a commitment to quality work, and core values that closely align with Fishbeck.”

Northwest was established in 1985 and employs 37 people. It has four offices located in Canton, Toledo, Dayton, and Indianapolis. It offers bridge inspection; bridge, culvert, and structural design; roadway, street, and freeway design; civil site, planning, and utility design; storm and sanitary sewer collection systems; water distribution systems; construction administration and inspection; and survey and construction staking.

“As we become part of the Fishbeck team, collectively we will be able to develop greater opportunities for new and existing clients – both from the NCI side and from Fishbeck expertise,” says Jon Drummond, engineer and senior project manager for Northwest.

Northwest has worked with the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Toledo Public Schools, and the U-31 Kokomo bypass in Indiana.

Fishbeck employs more than 400 people in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Macomb, Novi, Traverse City, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Indianapolis. It designed Grand Valley State University’s Daniel and Pamella DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health, construction engineering for the I-75 and University Drive interchange, and mechanical and electrical engineering services for The Ohio State University.
