In Related News: The Stellantis Canada/University of Windsor Automotive Research and Development Centre (ARDC) recently marked its 30th anniversary with a special celebration at the facility’s newest investment — the state-of-the-art Stellantis North America Battery Technology Centre.
“For 30 years, the ARDC has demonstrated what is possible when industry, academia and government work together with a shared commitment to innovation,” says Trevor Longley, president of Stellantis Canada. “This milestone celebrates the people and partnerships that have helped shape automotive research and development in Windsor, while also looking ahead to the future of mobility.
“With the addition of the North America Battery Technology Centre, Stellantis is strengthening its Canadian engineering footprint and advancing the technologies that will help deliver the next generation of electrified vehicles for our customers.”
Spanning more than 28,000 square feet, the Battery Technology Centre houses 35 walk-in climatic test cells for testing up to 63 packs and 11 reach-in test cells for testing up to 132 cells. The facility supports testing across a climatic operating range of -40 degrees Fahrenheit to +149 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Battery Technology Centre serves as Stellantis’ North America hub for the development and validation of advanced battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) cells, modules and battery packs, with storage capacity for 120 EV battery packs. The new facility will also build on the ARDC’s academic partnership with the University of Windsor through various testing projects.
The centre is part of the $2.8 billion investment Stellantis announced in May 2022, with support from all three levels of government, to secure the future of its Canadian operations, expand the ARDC, and accelerate the company’s transition to a more sustainable future.
Construction was completed at the end of 2025. The facility is expected to create approximately 55 engineering and technical positions on site.
