M1 Concourse in Pontiac is hosting its annual American Speed Festival (ASF) this weekend with two-time Indianapolis 500 Champion Al Unser Jr. being honored as the ASF 2025 Master of Motorsports.
As this year’s Master of Motorsports, Unser will be the honored guest at the Saturday ASF Checkered Flag Ball, which supports M1 Mobility. Unser and the BorgWarner Trophy — presented each year to the Indy 500 champion — will be at M1 all weekend.
The 2025 ASF is marking 50 years of the Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera. Produced from 1975 to 1989, the 930 Turbo Carrera distinguished itself with its flared rear fenders, large rear wing, and a potent, air-cooled turbocharged flat-six engine. Known for its significant and unforgiving handling, it earned the nickname “Widowmaker” and became the top model of the 911 series.
The American Speed Festival will host a special display honoring this legend. Porsche 930 Turbos, turbo derivatives, factory turbo race cars, and even turbo-look 911s will be featured in a dedicated group.
Other on-track action will include the quest for the ASF Cup, an open-class racing event featuring local talent, M1 garage owners, and professional drivers battling for the fastest lap on the M1 circuit. Across two days of competition, one champion will rise to claim victory and be awarded the State & Liberty ASF Red Coat.
Vintage Indy cars, stock cars, and Sprint Cars — some of the most iconic race cars in existence — as well as modern race cars, also will run at speed on the 1.5-mile M1 circuit.
When not hitting the track, the vintage racers will be on display for race fans to get an up-close look.
New in 2025 is the inaugural Ladies Race of Champions (LROC), which will feature five top professional female drivers competing in identical Radical race cars. Competitors include Pippa Mann, Loni Unser, Megan Meyer, Taylor Ferns, and Laura Hayes. They’ll be battling it out in timed sessions on Oct. 4-5. The best combined lap times will be crowned the 2025 LROC champion.
Motorcycle racing fans will be treated to American Flat Track Racing, led by 2016 American Flat Track Grand National Champion Bryan Smith. This mixed group of veteran and rising star flat track racers will mix it up, wheel-to-wheel, on M1’s 2.5-acre asphalt “Arena.”
Ele Bardha, the 2024 Taurus World Stunt Award winner, will lead a group of skilled drifters who will take on the M1 Concourse short course circuit.
The ASF offers displays, activities, food and drink for the whole family including kid zones, food trucks, vendor village, live music, access to the paddock, and a German biergarten.
The green flag drops on the weekend with Dine & Drive, open to only 30 vehicles. This is an opportunity to join two-time Indy 500 Champion Al User Jr. for a full-day immersive experience. Starting with a continental breakfast at the M1 Event Center guests will then head out on a scenic guided drive through Oakland County, followed by a gourmet lunch at The FED in Clarkston, a viewing of a rare private vehicle collection, and finally returning to M1 Concourse for a parade lap, wine sommelier, cigars, and martinis.
That evening, from 5-9 p.m., is the Garage Reveal when ticketholders are invited to explore private garages usually closed to the public. The event includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and crafted cocktails.
In addition to ground-level performance, the ASF will feature airborne Scream N’ Rebels Vintage War Birds. On Saturday, a C-47 will fly over the M1 Concourse, followed by the Bell UH-1 helicopter, then the Vultee BT-13, AT-6 Texan, and two T-34 Mentors. The flyovers will take place at 11 a.m., 1:15 p.m., and 3 p.m.
