Constitution Surgery Alliance (CSA), a Connecticut-based independent operator of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), today announced its expansion into Michigan through partnerships with UnaSource Surgery Center in Troy and Southfield’s MiOrtho Surgery Center, which is owned and operated in connection with Michigan Orthopaedic Surgeons in Royal Oak.
Through the partnerships, UnaSource and MiOrtho will gain access to CSA’s operational expertise, data and analytics platform, and strategic resources to support continued clinical excellence and long-term growth.
“UnaSource and MiOrtho have built outstanding reputations for clinical quality, patient care and physician collaboration,” says Kris Mineau, CEO of CSA. “Those strengths are why we chose to partner with them. We look forward to working alongside their physicians and teams to build on that success and grow together in Michigan.”
Opened in 2004, UnaSource Surgery Center is a multispecialty ASC with five operating rooms and a medical staff of 50 surgeons representing seven specialties. It is said to be one of only 10 ASCs nationwide to earn Advanced Orthopedic Certification in total joint replacement and complex spine surgery from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
The center also has received more than a dozen APEX awards for excellence in patient satisfaction and has been recognized by local and national publications.
“UnaSource has served our community for more than 20 years, building a strong reputation for clinical excellence and patient satisfaction,” says Dr. Robert Kohen, an orthopedic surgeon and UnaSource board member. “Our partnership with CSA will help us advance our shared priorities in patient safety, physician collaboration and strategic growth. By combining our experience and capabilities, we can continue to strengthen our center and deliver outstanding surgical care for years to come.”
MiOrtho Surgery Center was founded in 2021 by Michigan Orthopaedic Surgeons, the largest independent orthopedic group in the state, with more than 50 physicians and 13 locations across southeast Michigan. MOS surgeons operate at both MiOrtho and UnaSource, creating a foundation for collaboration across the two surgery centers.
The ASC is a state-of-the-art surgical facility specializing in orthopedic procedures that features four operating rooms and advanced robotic technology that supports complex joint replacements and spine procedures. MiOrtho is accredited by the AAAHC.
“Our goal was to find a partner that could strengthen our operations, help us navigate an evolving health care marketplace and support our long-term growth,” says Dr. Jad Khalil, an orthopedic surgeon and president of Michigan Orthopaedic Surgeons.
“CSA brings deep ASC expertise that will help us pursue new development opportunities across Michigan, while advancing our clinical programs, data collection and research capabilities. We share a commitment to clinical quality, and we believe this partnership will position our centers for continued success.”
According to the partners, the collaboration reflects CSA’s approach to growth: working with established patient-centric organizations that share a commitment to clinical excellence and aligned cultural views for long-term success.
“Clinical quality is at the center of everything we do at CSA,” says Mineau. “We don’t enter markets simply to add facilities to our network. We seek out physicians and organizations that share our commitment to outstanding patient care and have built strong clinical cultures. UnaSource and MiOrtho exemplify those qualities, and we are excited about what we can accomplish together in Michigan.”
