The Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Co. in Detroit is breaking out for a warmer climate with its first out-of-state location set for Key West, Fla.

Slated to open in April at the Perry Hotel, located at 7001 Shrimp Road in Key West, the new outlet will be the company’s fifth café location. The Perry Hotel had been seeking an upscale coffee brand to showcase in the hotel.

The 1,400-square-foot café will offer unobstructed views of the Stock Island Marina, and customers will be able to access walk-up service and indoor and outdoor seating. Soon after the café opens, room service will be offered for the hotel’s 100 guest rooms and suites.

Great Lakes Coffee will be serving its proprietary selection of farmer-direct coffees, lattes, cold brews, and a special fleet of healthy island-inspired smoothies. The café will feature design elements such as reclaimed wood, dark-toned tile, and industrial lighting.

“We couldn’t be more excited for this unique expansion opportunity,” says Brad Goulding, director of brand development for Great Lakes Coffee. “The Perry Hotel fully embraces and appreciates our philosophy for approachable third-wave specialty coffee, and we’re honored they thought of us to help build their coffee program at this world-class destination. Additionally, we’re excited to expand our menu to include several traditional Cuban-style coffee offerings to add to the local flair.”

Currently, Great Lakes Coffee has cafés in Midtown Detroit, TCF Center, Woodward Corner Market in Royal Oak (13 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue), and United Wholesale Mortgage in Pontiac. It also distributes packaged coffee throughout the U.S. market and launched its cold brew coffee packaged in 12-ounce, ready-to-drink cans last year.

The Perry Hotel, which was named a 2020 Conde’ Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Award recipient for Top 5 hotels in Florida, sits on a 40-plus-acre campus just one bridge away from Key West. The property has a 288-slip marina, two waterfront pools, weekly yoga sessions, three dockside restaurants, and more.

The Great Lakes Coffee Key West location will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Great Lakes has been in business in Detroit for more than 25 years.
