Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) Detroit, the local chapter of the 16,000-member global entrepreneurial community that enriches members’ lives through direct peer-to-peer learning, connections to experts, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, today announced Earvin “Magic” Johnson will be a keynote speaker at XCentric 2023, which will take place in Detroit from Oct. 2-4.

Each year, one chapter in the Central Region is selected to plan and host a multi-day event for 600 entrepreneurs. The annual immersive events include powerful speakers, offsite experiences, social activities, and peer-to-peer networking opportunities.

“Our theme coming out of COVID-19 is Amplify,” says Jenny Feterovich, president of EO Detroit and co-chair of XCentric. “We have a powerful group of high-growth entrepreneurs flying in from around the world ready to accelerate their businesses and experience the very best of Detroit. We take very seriously our responsibility to ensure that we provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences for our guests, and that they return to their respective cities and countries bragging about their time in Detroit.”

The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit will serve as XCentric’s home base, while other locations will be announced in the coming months to host offsite experiences and socials.

The first of eight speakers to be announced is Lansing-native Johnson, a Michigan State University standout, five-time NBA champion,1992 Olympic gold medalist, two-time Basketball Hall of Famer, co-owner of the Los Angeles Lakers (NBA), Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB), and Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA), founder of the Magic Johnson Foundation, and chairman and CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprises.

Johnson also co-owns eSports franchise Team Liquid, and he continues to expand his influence through his many businesses that include EquiTrust Life Insurance Company and SodexoMAGIC, a food service and facilities management company.

In addition, through a joint-venture fund, Johnson is investing millions of dollars on infrastructure improvement across the United States.

In 2022, Johnson released his first non-fungible token project with Dapper Labs, leading the first ever successful Anthropology set in company history. He is currently expanding his business acumen into the metaverse, announcing his investment and ownership of a football and basketball team with SimWin Sports.

He is also one of the leading investors in a number of minority-owned technology companies that include Uncharted Power, an award-winning power and data infrastructure technology company, and Jopwell, a diversity and hiring recruiting platform.

The accomplishments and global impact of Earvin “Magic” Johnson are on display in They Call Me Magic, the only first-person account of Johnson’s life from childhood to business. The AppleTV+ project was the top selling documentary series per episode when released in 2022.
Johnson currently serves on the board of directors for Fanatics, a sports licensing company, and Cameo, a company that lets celebrities sell personalized messages to fans.

“We are committed to making this the best EO regional event ever held,” says Andrew Kuhn, co-chair and the incoming EO Detroit president. “Securing Magic sets the tone for future event announcements and demonstrates that we are serious about curating an event that has attendees talking about it for the next decade.”
