Horse Powertrain, a London-based supplier of low-emission powertrain systems, has opened its new, 7,178-square-foot North American office in the Southfield Town Center in Southfield.
The facility will be home to 32 newly created job roles covering business functions such as procurement, marketing, and human resources.
Horse Powertrain’s pre-integrated powertrain systems are designed to reduce the complexity and capital burden faced by automakers, allowing them to “quickly meet changing consumer demand, unlocking considerable capex savings, and reducing the time-intensity of vehicle production.”
“Having been born, raised, and spent most of my career in Michigan, it’s a privilege to open Horse Powertrain’s North America office in Southfield,” says Thomas Lewis, president of Horse Powertrain USA.
“This move marks the next step of our journey, allowing us to directly support local automakers by collaborating with them in deploying our next-gen combustion and hybrid powertrains in their vehicles. In the long-term, our aim is to establish a wider set of business functions in the US and establish Horse Powertrain as a major player in the North American automotive ecosystem.”
For the U.S. market, Horse Powertrain says it brings expertise in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and range-extended powertrains, using an extensive catalogue of intellectual property and engineering heritage.
Horse Powertrain is an independent company with more than 125 years of heritage with operations in Europe, China, and South America. It employs more than 19,000 people and has over 25 customers around the world.
The move follows the incorporation of Horse Powertrain USA Inc., the trading company for the company’s U.S. operations, in Delaware.
