Detroit’s General Motors Co. has created its own insurance. Starting with Arizona residents, OnStar Insurance Services will offer the insurance to GM employees this year and will expand to the general public early next year.
The OnStar brand has offered services including crash response, directions, roadside assistance, and more for more than 20 years.
GM says OnStar Insurance Services will use its understanding of GM vehicles to offer a secure, fair, personalized, and easy-to-use digital insurance experience for drivers.
“OnStar Insurance will promote safety, security, and peace of mind,” says Andrew Rose, president of OnStar Insurance Services. “We aim to be an industry leader, offering insurance in an innovative way. GM customers who have subscribed to OnStar and connected services will be eligible to receive discounts while also receiving fully integrated services from OnStar Insurance Services.”
For OnStar Insurance policyholders who have an OnStar Safety and Security plan, Automatic Crash Response can notify an OnStar Emergency-certified adviser who can send for help.
The agency is working with its insurance carrier partners to offer insurance that takes biased judgement out of insurance shopping by focusing on factors within the customer’s control including individual vehicle usage. It will also reward smart, safe driving habits.
Plans will provide customers with personalized vehicle care. With advanced technology and data-backed analyses of driving behavior, OnStar Insurance Services plans build on the learnings of the OnStar Smart Driver feature to provide proactive recommendations for smarter driving habits so customers can drive more safely and potentially earn discounts.
Insurance policies sold through OnStar Insurance Services Inc. are underwritten and issued by member companies of American Family Mutual Insurance Co. in Wisconsin, and insurers are not affiliated with OnStar Insurance Services or its affiliates.
OnStar Insurance Services Inc. is a licensed agency based in Arizona and has its principal place of business at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, where GM is headquartered.
