Dearborn Manufacturer Creates 3-D Printer for Jewelers

EnvisionTEC, a Dearborn-based manufacturer of professional grade 3-D printing products, has developed a 3-D printer that creates direct investment castings for the jewelry industry.

The printer, called the Micro Plus cDLM, will feature the company’s continuous digital light manufacturing technology, which company officials say improves upon the amount of time it takes to create castable jewelry models.

“The addition of cDLM technology to EnvisionTEC’s Micro Plus 3-D printer is a game changer for the jewelry industry,” says Al Siblani, CEO of EnvisionTEC. “Traditionally, 3-D printing castable materials would take hours to build. With cDLM, bridal and fashion rings can be designed, grown, and ready for investment casting the same day, which is a huge advantage for the jewelry market.”

The printer will also feature an industrial UV LED light engine, an integrated PC with Wi-Fi, and a built-in touchscreen.

“Providing real solutions to real application problems has become the hallmark of our research and development team’s efforts,” Siblani says. “Adding the speed of cDLM to our professional grade jewelry 3-D printing lineup will provide our customers with unprecedented manufacturing turnaround times.”

The new printer will be available in August.
