Katie Bowman Coleman, president and CEO of Clarkston-based Bowman Auto Group, today announced the acquisition of Chevrolet of Clinton, located in Clinton (1070 US-12, southwest of Ann Arbor). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The dealership will now operate as Bowman Chevrolet of Clinton and will be the fifth retail location under the Bowman brand, which includes Bowman Chevrolet, Bowman Isuzu Commercial Truck, Bowman Pre-Owned, and Bowman Auto Center.

“The Clinton Chevrolet location has been a cornerstone of its community for more than 65 years,” says Bowman Coleman. “This acquisition is an opportunity to preserve the dealership’s legacy, while allowing us to expand into new markets given its proximity to Chelsea, Saline, Adrian, Ann Arbor, Jackson, and other surrounding cities.”

The Clinton Chevrolet franchise was first established in 1957. Today, the 21,000-square-foot dealership sits on 25-acres located at US-12 and M-52, and includes a sales and service facility as well as 36 employees. With the Clinton acquisition, Bowman Auto Group will now employ more than 150 people.

Bowman’s Clarkston location is a leading Chevrolet dealership in the U.S. and Michigan’s No. 1 Chevrolet EV dealer. The dealership’s sales volume tripled since Bowman Coleman became dealer principal in 2011, and it consistently ranks among the top two percent of the nearly 3,000 Chevrolet dealerships nationwide, the company reports.

Bowman Chevrolet also has been named a General Motors’ distinguished Chevrolet Dealer of the Year for seven consecutive years.

“Clarkston has been a growth market for us,” says Bowman Coleman. “We’ve seen strong sales and service satisfaction and can attribute that to our team’s dedication to going the extra mile for our customers at every turn. That’s amplified by our ongoing commitment to being active, participating members of the community.

“It’s exactly the game plan we want to implement in Clinton. We look forward to growing the Bowman team and continuing the dealership’s support of organizations and programs in the Clinton community, including the annual trunk-or-treat event.”

Bowman Auto Group has been actively involved in the Clarkston community since the Chevrolet dealership opened in 1984, providing support to dozens of local organizations, including Easterseals MORC, Special Camp for Special Kids (SCAMP), My Habitat Clarkston, Toys for Tots, the Michigan Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Horizon’s Upward Bound, and Clarkston Area Youth Assistance.

In addition, the dealership states it has donated nearly $100,000 through its annual Dine Out and scholarship program for Clarkston seniors.

In 2017, Bowman Coleman was selected a Powered by Women honoree by DBusiness magazine based on reader nominations. To read her profile, visit here.
