Ally Financial Inc. is granting more than $1.6 million in awards to 57 nonprofit organizations in the company’s hometowns of Detroit and Charlotte, N.C. through the Ally Charitable Foundation.

Nearly $1 million will go to 27 Detroit-based organizations and $700,000 will support 30 Charlotte-based organizations.

Detroit based organizations receiving workforce development grants include: the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Michigan, which prepares youth for careers, entrepreneurship, and homeownership; the Detroit Economic Growth Association’s Small Business Loan Portal, a loan matching platform; and The Yunion, which serves Detroit Youth by providing education, employment, and leadership development opportunities.

Through Ally’s sponsorship of “Saturdays in the D,” the city of Detroit in partnership with the University of Michigan Center for Innovation in Detroit offers a range of educational and professional development opportunities for residents.

These include enrichment activities for youth, workforce-focused workshops, and certificate programs for adults, emphasizing skill-building, career advancement, and college readiness.

“We’re fortunate that our Ally teammates are just as committed to the communities where we live, work and serve, allowing Ally to provide wraparound support to our nonprofit partners through technical assistance, mentoring and employee volunteerism and giving, which more than doubles the national average,” says Mike Rizer, president of the Ally Charitable Foundation.

In Charlotte, organizations set to receive workforce development grants include Cakeable Charlotte, which provides vocational training for adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities and George Washington Carver Food Research Institute’s Future Food Professional: Agriculture STEAM Academy, who are dedicated to advancing education in the agricultural food sciences sector.

Ally also is committing more than $150 million in 2025 to support workforce development. The company’s stated commitment seeks to advance economic mobility through education, career opportunities, and job creation.

“We recognize the future of work is evolving faster than ever, and the skills needed to succeed are rapidly changing, too,” says Kathie Patterson, chair of the Ally Charitable Foundation and chief human resources and corporate citizenship officer at Ally. “Through this giving, we are helping organizations open doors to new and expanded career opportunities that will remove barriers to sustainable employment.”
