Advancing Macomb, a Mount Clemens-based 501(c)(3) organization that convenes resources to solve community challenges in Macomb County, has launched the Advancing Macomb Nonprofit Accelerator, a leadership development program that supports nonprofits serving county residents.
The Advancing Macomb Nonprofit Accelerator is designed to elevate small to mid-size nonprofits in Macomb County with a four-month leadership and operational development program. Session topics will include:
- Board development and engagement
- Communications, marketing and public relations
- Financial planning and reporting
- Grant-seeking and fund development
- Leadership and governance
- Mission, vision, values and strategic planning
- Public policy and advocacy
- Well-being for nonprofit leaders
“Advancing Macomb is proud to lead this innovative program, which underscores our commitment to fostering thriving communities through nonprofit collaboration and support,” says Phil Gilchrist, executive director of Advancing Macomb.
Advancing Macomb says it collaborated with statewide and regional organizations focused on capacity-building to develop the program’s curriculum. Through these meetings, Advancing Macomb says it will provide best practices, valuable resources, and expert insights from diverse sources.
Partners include Co.act Detroit, Culture Source, Michigan Community Resources, Michigan Nonprofit Association, Nonprofit Enterprise at Work, the Nonprofit Network, and Velocity.
Advancing Macomb also announced Meghan Rutigliano has joined the organization as program manager to help lead the Nonprofit Accelerator. Rutigliano brings more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, project management, and community engagement to her new role.
“Meghan’s impressive background, including her work with Burning Man Project, LION Publishing, Outlier Media, and Planet Detroit, will be an incredible asset to the program and our community here in Macomb County,” says Gilchrist.
Rutigliano says, “The Advancing Macomb Nonprofit Accelerator offers a transformational opportunity for Macomb County nonprofits to strengthen their impact and sustainability. This program is about building lasting capacity, fostering collaboration, and empowering organizations to thrive.”
Up to 10 nonprofit organizations based in or serving Macomb County residents will be selected for the first cohort, which will launch on March 10. The initial cohort will run from March through June 2025, meeting two to three times monthly, both in-person and virtually.
