T&I Credit Union in Clawson and Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union in Clinton Township have announced their intent to merge. Terms of the potential transaction were not disclosed.

The merger was approved by regulators and will be effective on April 1, 2025, provided a successful member vote is achieved during a Special Meeting to be held at T&I Credit Union at 600 N. Main St. in Clawson on March 18, 2025, at 5 p.m.

The two Michigan credit unions both share a 70-year commitment to supporting members and their local communities. T&I Credit Union, a $90 million asset size financial institution which serves more than 4,000 members, will merge into MSGCU, a $3.9 billion asset size credit union with 150,000 members and 22 branch locations.

T&I Credit Union was founded by employees of Ford Tractor in 1955. It offers loans, checking, and mortgage refinance options.

“Keeping up with the technology and services that our members deserve has become increasingly difficult as a credit union of our size,” says Kathy Karner, CEO of T&I Credit Union and a 40-year veteran of the credit union.

“Merging with Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union provides our members access to more services, a larger branch network, and more robust digital tools, while maintaining the high level of service and community involvement our members are used to.”

T&I Credit Union’s team members will remain if the merger is approved, and its branch office located in Clawson will become part of Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union.

“MSGCU and T&I Credit Union share common core values and a dedication to the credit union philosophy of people helping people,” says Steve Brewer, president and CEO of Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union. “We are excited to welcome T&I members and team members into the MSGCU family following a successful member vote.”
