Suburban Sports Group (SSG) in Farmington Hills has announced The Athlete Academy, which seeks to prepare highly motivated student-athletes to win in life and sports. The academy is scheduled to open for the fall 2023 academic year.
The Athlete Academy will provide specialized programming and training for student-athletes, both boys and girls ages 14-18, in a bid to help them maximize their athletic and personal potential.
“We are super excited to launch The Athlete Academy in the Detroit area to families and athletes who are looking for a flexible schedule, a progressive and inspiring developmental atmosphere, in a supportive culture embraced by like-minded student-athletes in pursuit of their fullest potential,” says Tom Anastos, CEO of Suburban Sports Group.

The Athlete Academy curriculum is designed for athletes with an emphasis on developing a premier standard of mental and physical performance training, leadership abilities and life skills. Student-athletes will utilize the new Athlete Lab, a state-of-the-art training and sports science center featuring integrated performance tracking technology, indoor and outdoor turf, a cognitive training zone, a sand pit and devoted recovery area.
A feature of the Athlete Lab will be the Mind Gym, a smart classroom designed to host both in-person and virtual experts from around the world. The facility also will include an alimentary fuel station, study space, and breakout rooms for individual and small group tutorials, mentorship, or additional social opportunities.
“We are providing athletes an opportunity to leave no stone unturned when training to reach their potential,” says Jeff Lerg, executive director of The Athlete Academy. “Our programming and personnel involved will prepare students to win in life and sports.”
Based in Farmington Hills, students have the option to attend the schooling of their choice with online learning or in-person education.
