Cambium Analytica, an NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) company, has opened a new state-of-the-art analytical testing lab facility in Traverse City.

The 15,000-square-foot facility’s opening serves as a key milestone that advances NSF growth and demonstrates disciplined investment behind NSF’s strategy, according to the Ann Arbor-based organization.

Backed by $5 million in investment that enabled facility improvements, new equipment, and redeployment of instrumentation from a former Massachusetts laboratory, the lab expected to be able to more than double its scientific staff with highly skilled, technical positions.

A year after its acquisition by NSF, a global public health organization, the company’s facility provides the space, instrumentation, and scientific resources needed to increase testing capacity, accelerate method development and bring new capabilities to market faster.

Closer collaboration between research and development scientists and lab leadership also should improve method optimization, scalability, and alignment with customer needs.

“Cambium Analytica’s new lab positions us as a full-service scientific partner to companies within the food, dietary supplement and ingredient industries,” says Chris Kirwin, global director of wellness for NSF. “Through this facility, we are proud to offer high-throughput analytical testing, stability and shelf-life testing, product development, contract research, and compliance services that support the whole product lifecycle and align perfectly with our certification services.”

The facility’s equipment includes chromatography and mass spectrometry systems, spectroscopy instruments, microbiological testing platforms, sample preparation equipment, innovative automation and robotics, and general laboratory instrumentation used to identify and quantity chemical compounds, contaminants, microorganisms, and other quality attributes.

“In an environment where consumers are demanding proof of product claims, Cambium Analytica offers innovative technologies that augment the data transparency needed for trust in the marketplace,” says George Powell, senior director of wellness at Cambium Analytica.

As an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing laboratory, Cambium Analytica provides a complete offering for the routine testing services for the food and supplement markets, as well NSF certifications for dietary supplements, Good Manufacturing Practices, NSF/ANSI 173 for product contents, Certified for Sport, and NSF/ANSI 527 standard for cosmetics and personal care.

“The goal with this new facility was to be able to offer a truly comprehensive suite of scientific services in synergy with the NSF ecosystem.” says Alex Adams, senior director of wellness at Cambium Analytica. “This is a modern product testing laboratory; built to match the speed of innovation and evolving needs of the supplement market.”

Cambium Analytica’s new lab now offers a menu of over 400 testing methodologies and has the capacity to perform more than 60,000 tests per month.
