The 2018 Women’s Business Enterprise National Council National Conference and Business Fair will be held June 19-21 at Detroit’s Cobo Center. This is the first time the event, which is in its 19th year, will be held in Detroit. About 6,000 attendees are expected.

At the event — this year’s conference theme is “Discover the Difference” — women business owners will have the opportunity to meet with corporate purchasing representatives of national and international corporations. Some of the largest woman-owned businesses from around the country and major corporations are expected to attend.

“Detroit’s innovative and entrepreneurial history, the city’s dynamic resurgence on the national scene, our international ports, and, of course, our global automotive and manufacturing economy combine to make Detroit an attractive destination for the 19th annual conference,” says Michelle Richards, executive director of the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council. “Additionally, the Detroit area has one of the largest concentrations of women-owned businesses in the country.”

The conference is annually attended by certified women business owners, senior executives, and procurement representatives from Fortune 500 and the U.S. government, and select partner organizations whose mission align with the council’s vision of expanding women’s business opportunities in the marketplace.

“I attended my first National WBENC conference in 2017,” says Lauren Aitch, owner of Our Own Apparel, a Lansing-based certified woman-owned business. “As a result, we are exploring pilots with three major retailers, including Coca-Cola.”
