Livonia’s Sigma International, a global tier-one automotive supplier providing decorative trim, has formalized an alliance with Plymouth’s Atra Plastics Inc. to create next-generation trim components including dynamic trim and smart-decoration solutions.

“The automotive market is transforming at such a rapid pace, it’s hard for suppliers and even OEMs to keep up,” says Chris Naidoo, founder and CEO of Sigma. “Partnerships and collaborations like these diversify risk, reduce capital investments, and more importantly, allow suppliers to bring together the best of their technologies and capabilities in an efficient way to support their customers.”

Naidoo says automotive trim has evolved as OEMs want more high-end features and trim begins to incorporate advanced driver assistance systems. He says Atra will also offer engineering as well as resource and development resources, product design, part feasibility, and tool development through production.

“After setting up the alliance, we can strengthen the added value of our products and share the advantages of both sides in marketing, technology, and project development to be a total solution supplier for our customers in smart decoration fields,” says James Zhang, general manager of Atra.

Joining forces also expands Atra’s footprint in the U.S. and China, where Atra has manufacturing facilities.

Sigma also offers lighting, specialty coatings, smart surfaces, and haptic sensors for driver awareness. Its products are in brands including Jeep, Subaru, Cadillac, Lincoln, Hyundai-Kia, and more.

Atra products are found in vehicles by Ford, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and Hyundai-Kia.
