The Detroit Sports Commission (DSC), which attracts regional, national, and international sporting events to metro Detroit, has named Terry Rhadigan as the new chair of the Detroit Sports Organizing Corp. (DSOC).
Rhadigan is vice president of corporate giving at General Motors Co. in Detroit. The DSOC prioritizes, evaluates, and executes future bid opportunities to enable the Detroit Sports Commission to attract events to the area.
“The Detroit Sports Commission is extremely pleased to welcome Terry Rhadigan as chair of the Detroit Sports Organizing Corp.,” says Dave Beachnau, executive director of the Detroit Sports Commission. “Terry has been a key contributor to our organization and brings significant strategic acumen, expertise, and passion — and he played an important role in our recent pitch that landed the 2027 NCAA Men’s Final Four (coming to Ford Field).”
At GM, Rhadigan leads the company’s charitable efforts in Detroit and around the world, which includes a $60 million nonprofit grant portfolio, employee volunteerism and engagement, and community relations.
“I am honored to have been selected as chair of such a diverse and talented group of Detroit area leaders who are committed to this region,” Rhadigan says. “The momentum we’ve built in just a few years is energizing and I look forward to working with my DSOC peers as we showcase this city as a premiere destination for sporting events and help bring visitors from around the world to experience it for themselves.”
Rhadigan started his GM career in 1988, holding various field positions in customer and dealer support before moving to the Chevrolet Marketing Center and the former GM Foundation. He is a Leadership Detroit XIX graduate and an officer of the Detroit Economic Club.
He also serves on the board of directors of the Automotive Hall of Fame, United Way for Southeastern Michigan, Detroit Regional Partnership, and Loyola High School in Detroit. Rhadigan earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Recent major sporting events announced for the Detroit region include the 2024 NFL Draft and 2027 NCAA Men’s Final Four, but also the 2023 WWE SummerSlam at Ford Field and eight future United States Golf Association championships, including two men’s and two women’s U.S. Opens, to be held at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township.
