General Motors Co. in Detroit has launched the OnStar Fleet Intelligence platform, designed to help companies manage their vehicle operations.
Managed through a single account, GM says the easy-to-access platform uses vehicle data and the automaker’s ecosystem of connected services to combine asset productivity, efficiency, risk management, and total operating cost into one unified system.
“Our fleet customers need simple, intuitive tools to manage their vehicles and efficiently manage operating costs,” says Ian Hucker, global vice president of GM Fleet. “The OnStar Fleet Intelligence platform meets this need head-on, streamlining complex data into one accessible dashboard so business owners can focus less on administrative hurdles and more on efficiently scaling their operations.”
Within the platform, users can renew OnStar software and services and connect vehicles. Additionally, this unified view is designed to allow fleet owners and managers to track orders, manage vehicles, and access essential information from diagnostic data like fuel efficiency and range, to geofencing and vehicle protection.
For customers large enough to have a Fleet Account Number (FAN), it can be linked to the account to enable management of all vehicles listed under that FAN, regardless of make, equipment, or OnStar plan, with one login.
“More than 30 years ago, OnStar revolutionized the connected vehicle (by) combining human support with tech to deliver real-world impact,” says Arnie Magnotta, vice president of OnStar Services and Digital Commerce. “This new platform builds on that legacy of innovation to transform fleet management, turn data into insights, and help our customers grow and scale their businesses.”
Built into the platform is Fleet Insights, designed to help fleet managers find patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed if they only look at one vehicle or report at a time. For example, a fleet manager can analyze why fuel costs are rising and look for trends across vehicles, routes, and drivers. This helps them determine what changes will have the greatest impact on lowering fuel costs.
Taking it a step further, GM introduced the OnStar Fleet AI Assistant, which is built into the platform, giving fleet managers the tools they need to transition from reactive firefighters to proactive decision makers. The Fleet AI Assistant is designed to reduce manual analysis and reporting, delivering “instant” answers via natural language queries — ultimately helping to improve vehicle utilization and lowering costs.
For example, using natural language, a fleet manager can simply ask the AI Assistant – “show total idling time for each vehicle this month,” or “show which are my most utilized vehicles and which are my least.” The AI Assistant will display the information, reducing the time spent on manual analysis. Now fleet managers can more easily spot trends and potentially find opportunities to increase efficiency.
Select GM Fleet customers can now access the OnStar Fleet Intelligence platform, with additional customers coming on board through a phased rollout.
