The new 15,000-seat soccer stadium for the Detroit City Football Club in southwest Detroit won’t open until the spring 2028 season of the United Soccer League. From the beginning of proposing a new stadium, team management stated it would open in spring 2027.
The delay was brought on by the extended time required to tear down and remediate the former Southwest Detroit Hospital building and site. The hospital operated from 1973 to 1991 at the southwest corner of Michigan Avenue and 20th Street.
Along with announcing the deferment of the project, called AlumniFi Field, team management provided new interior renderings of the stadium by Disbrow Iannuzzi Architects in Detroit.
The venue will offer 170,000-square-feet of interiors, which includes concourses, public spaces, premium hospitality, and team areas.
The stadium, part of a 17-acre site, is intended to be used throughout the year for other sporting events and concerts.

The architect of record is HOK, while the general contract is Barton Malow in Southfield.
Founded in 2012, Detroit City FC participates in the USL Championship, the second highest level in the U.S. men’s game; a women’s team that plays in the amateur USL W League; a youth academy; a statewide affiliation of youth clubs numbering over 3,000 players, as well as an indoor soccer facility in Detroit.
DCFC currently plays at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck.
