You might think that after less than two years in existence, this high-rise destination would not have needed a revision. After all, it has a spectacular setting with a state-of-the-art exhibition kitchen and a skyline view through expansive windows on the 16th floor of the MotorCity Casino Hotel. But it needed changes, and the arrival of executive chef Don Yamauchi provided the needed boost. Yamauchi rewrote and improved the contemporary American menu, making it more accessible without dumbing it down. Crowds are responding. If you want a reservation for a Saturday night, give the maitre d’ plenty of time. – hourdetroit.com

Iridescence is located at 2901 Grand River, Detroit; 313-237-6732.

Podcast: Listen to DBusiness editor, R.J. King, interview Chef Don Yamauchi about his new menu, and the adventurous palate of Metro Detroiters.

Congratulations to our prize winner, John George!

The winner of the Caran d’Ache pen is John George, vice president and creative director of Lovio George, a communications and design firm in Detroit’s Midtown District.

For the contest, George selected Roast, located in the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit, as his favorite restaurant to attend a business meeting.

“I like the atmosphere in Roast, which is very cosmopolitan,” George says. “I like the fact that it’s a Michael Symon restaurant, who is an Iron Chef, and the fact that it’s downtown. Plus, the menu is meat centric.”
