Arbor Lofts Set to Open in Southfield

SOUTHFIELD — The most significant new residential development to have been built in Southfield in more than two decades will welcome its first tenant next week and the expectation is that nearly 60 units will be filled by this fall.

Arbor Lofts is a 120,000 square-foot re-development of the former Civic Plaza office building at 20300 Civic Center Dr. in the Southfield City Centre area between 10 Mile Road and I-696. With room for nearly 170 residents, Arbor Lofts, designed by Rochester-based Designhaus Architecture, offers one, two, three, and four-bedroom loft units with easy access to major highways, nearby employers, and area universities.

Developed by Bloomfield Hills-based Rushmore Properties LLC, Arbor Lofts began construction in December 2012 and all units are expected to be completed by August 2013. The four-story building will also include ground-floor retail space, shared office space concept, entrepreneurial lab, a spa and coffee shop/bar, fitness center, and more.

“The living space is ideal for residents wishing for a roomy feel with great views and easy access,” said Rushmore Properties Group Principal Pamela Applebaum.

“We designed Arbor Lofts based on viewing other apartment lofts that not only are popular in such places as Chicago and Ann Arbor but even in other parts of the world,” she added. “It offers a hip, urban feel in a suburban location. There really is nothing like it in this area.” Residents will benefit from the convenient location and parking, as well as free access to the city of Southfield’s tennis courts, swimming pool, and fitness facility just a couple of blocks away.

Arbor Lofts offers a unique flair that sets apart the converted Southfield office space. It features high ceilings and wide hallways, energy efficient features including Low E windows and individual unit furnaces, and other high-end unit features such as granite and stainless steel appliances.

“This is truly the most significant housing project in Southfield in a long time, and we’re excited to get the word out there,” said Rushmore Properties Development Consultant Gaal Karp. “We’re proud that we are able to complete a project of this size in just nine months.”

Applebaum believes that the location is ideal for college students at universities along the Lodge Freeway corridor like Lawrence Tech and Wayne State University, healthcare employees from Providence Hospital and Oakland Regional Hospital in Southfield, creative thinkers, enthusiastic city dwellers, and professionals of all ages.

The location is minutes from many of Detroit’s large employers from General Motors to The Detroit Medical Center and Henry Ford Hospital to Compuware and Quicken Loans.
