Troy-based Meritor, a supplier of drivetrain and electric powertrain solutions, has announced it will collaborate with Norway’s Hexagon Purus, which specializes in zero emission e-mobility.

The companies will integrate Meritor’s Blue Horizon 14Xe integrated ePowertrain into Hexagon Purus’ contracted projects. Production is scheduled to begin in 2021.

The contracted projects include Class 6, 7, and 8 vehicles.

“We’re proud to have Hexagon Purus as a customer and to align our electric powertrain technologies to their needs,” says TJ Reed, vice president of global electrification for Meritor. “This award builds on the commitment we’ve made to invest in advanced technologies for customers around the world.”

Meritor’s 14Xe fully integrated electric powertrain for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles will be produced in North Carolina.

“Meritor and Hexagon Purus share a common vision of bringing clean mobility solutions to the commercial vehicle market,” says Todd Sloan, executive vice president of Hexagon Purus. “Meritor provides the expertise in electric powertrains that will help us drive toward that goal.”

Hexagon Purus, a Hexagon Composites company, provides hydrogen type 4 high-pressure cylinders, battery packs, and vehicle systems integration for fuel cell electric and battery electric vehicles. Its products offers zero emission solutions for light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles, buses, ground storage, distribution, marine, rail, and aerospace.

In related news, Meritor also announced the launch of its new tool on MeritorPartsXpress.com that makes it easier to identify the correct components for trailer axles and wheel ends.

The Trailer Axle Components Selector Tool identifies the correct aftermarket part number in six categories: brake drums, hardware kits, lined shoe kits, wheel seals, wheel bearings, and hubs. It was developed in response to customer requests for a better way to identify aftermarket components.

Other MeritorPartsXpress.com features include Xpress Facts landing pages, which offer product line overviews, announcements, and access to literature, training, videos, and more; gallery-style viewing that showcases all parts categories within a product line for easier navigation; expanded bill of material functionality to help users compare component pricing for assemblies and kits; and sign-up options for notification alerts so customers can receive real-time updates on the status of their orders.

Meritor supplies drivetrain, mobility, braking, aftermarket, and electric powertrain solutions for commercial vehicle and industrial markets. It has been in business for more than 110 years. It serves commercial truck, trailer, off-highway, defense, specialty, and aftermarket customers around the world.
