Electric Last Mile Solutions, a pioneer of electric and intelligent mobility solutions based in Troy, announced it has selected Nauto, a leading provider of AI-based vehicle safety technology for commercial fleets and the automotive section based in Palo Alto, Calif.

“ELMS vehicles understand their environment, containing advanced sensors with deep learning and predictive behavioral algorithms that improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime,” says Jonathan Ballon, chief strategy and digital officer at ELMS. “Together with Nauto, ELMS customers will dramatically increase the safety and performance of their drivers.”

ELMS plans to offer Nauto’s advanced predictive-AI fleet safety platform as a customer option, available to pre-installed on new vehicles. The partnership has the goal of helping ELMS customers avoid collisions and enable fleet managers to improve operational efficiency, reduce vehicle downtime, and provide cost savings from discounted insurance premiums.

The platform will be available through the ELMS air and driver safety package. Trained on more than 1.3 billion AI-processed driving miles and used by some of the world’s leading commercial fleets. It is designed to warn drivers of imminent collisions before they happen.

Alongside outside the vehicle monitoring, the system also monitors the driver for risky behaviors — texting, speeding, or otherwise losing focus — and will gently nudge them to maintain their focus.

These predictive alerts can translate into critical extra time for drivers to react, helping to avoid collisions and reduce the costs that result from them. Nauto has demonstrated the ability to deliver these warnings with 95 to 99 percent accuracy while reducing risky driving behavior.

The incident reporting system is designed to capture relevant video, time, and location information to automatically populate incident reports for efficient and reliable claims solutions. The aim of this system is both save time and combat frivolous claims with accurate and immediate video and information.

“As a commercial EV leader, it’s a natural fit for ELMS to continue to innovate. This partnership will upgrade the safety capabilities across ELMS fleets, and help keep communities safe,” says Stefan Heck, CEO of Nauto. “We look forward to working with ELMS to reduce risk for not only drivers, but also vulnerable road users like cyclists, children, and pedestrians.

“Nauto’s fleet customers drive a disproportionate number of urban miles, which are the most complex, highest risk roads where fatalities take place. Together we’re working towards vision zero – zero emissions, zero fatalities.”
