Youth Day Co-founder Honored with Neighborhood Leadership Award

WARREN – Metro Detroit Youth Day Co-founder Edward Deeb recently received the Exemplary Neighborhood Leadership Award from the Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corp. for his role in supporting and inspiring metro Detroit youth to do the most good.

Deeb, of Bloomfield Township, was nominated by peers and chosen by an independent panel of jurors representing community residents and representatives from corporate, philanthropy and public sectors. The Exemplary Leadership Award recognizes an individual who measurably improved the quality of life in the neighborhood through community organizing, community engagement or advocacy.

Deeb has served as an association executive for more than 50 years and is the founder of the Michigan Food and Beverage Association, the Michigan Business and Professional Association, Michigan Youth Appreciation Foundation and is chairman emeritus of the Eastern Market Merchants Association. Deeb also founded the Friends of Eastern Market and co-founded the Eastern Market Corp.

Deeb has received numerous awards and honors, including Michiganian of the Year from The Detroit News, Pointe of Light Award, Neal Shine Shining Light Award from the Detroit Free Press, MSU Alumni Association, United Way, The Salvation Army, Ellis Island, Federal Bureau of Investigation, George Romney Award for Lifetime Achievement in Volunteerism, honorary Doctors Degrees from Davenport University and Detroit College of Business, Detroit Urban League, New Detroit Inc., and Wayne State University.  He is also a member of the International Institute Hall of Fame, and Macomb County Hall of Fame.
