NORTHVILLE — The Second Annual Wine & Dine in the D, an evening of gourmet food, fine wine, and the jazz vocals of Detroit’s Ursula Walker, will take over Orchestra Hall in Detroit on Thursday night, September 20, 2012.
The event benefits the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, which is committed to relentlessly pursuing innovative means that accelerate the development of next-generation multiple myeloma treatments to extend the lives of patients and lead to a cure.
The idea for Wine & Dine in the D came from its founder, Bloomfield Township resident Sid Moss, who has the disease and credits MMRF for providing him, and other patients, with a quality of life that wasn’t attainable prior to the Foundation’s research.
The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with an optional presentation by Dr. Jeffrey Margolis, medical oncologist at Beaumont Hospital; Dr. Michael Lill, head of stem cell research at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles; and the staff of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
The “wining and dining” begins at 6:30 and includes specialties from some of Metro Detroit’s top restaurants, including – but not limited to – 24 Grille, Atlas Bistro, Giovanni’s Ristorante, The Parthenon, Texas de Brazil, and Vincente’s Cuban Cuisine in Detroit; Fran O’Brien’s Crabhouse of Auburn Hills; Pizzeria Biga in Southfield; Maria’s Restaurant and Baked Impressions in West Bloomfield; Forest Grill and Cameron’s Steakhouse in Birmingham; and Mitchell’s Fish Market in Livonia.
Local Michigan wineries and microbreweries will be featured, as well as boutique wines from around the world. Famed Detroit jazz singer Ursula Walker will provide the entertainment, while attendees enjoy the food, libations, and a silent auction.
A Patron-only After-Glow Reception caps off the evening with desserts and cordials.
“Sixteen years ago, before the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation existed, people who got the disease were only expected to live a couple of years. That has all changed, says Moss. “There are four drugs currently on the market that came from MMRF research and more are being tested,” He adds.
Grateful for the aggressive research performed by the MMRF, Moss felt he had to do something. “I wanted to help raise money, so I looked at what I like – good music, wine, and great food. From that, I started Wine & Dine in the D.”
A ticket to Wine & Dine in the D is $150, or $250 for a Patron ticket, which allows the purchaser to attend the evening’s events as well as the After-Glow Reception. Special tickets are available for multiple myeloma patients.
