Vertical Detroit, a wine-bar restaurant, has named Gordon Sandstrom as its new general manager.

“I’m eager to exceed our customers’ expectations,” says Sandstrom. “I’m excited to be part of this team, and I want to take Vertical to the next level.”

Sandstrom has been in the restaurant industry for the last 24 years, most recently at London Chop House in Detroit. He has three children and enjoys cooking at home and golfing.

Favorite menu items for Sandstrom include the wolverine lamb strip, thai chili lavender braised duck confit, and the triple-layer chocolate ganache. Most of the restaurant’s food is locally sourced.

The restaurant’s wine list features more than 2,200 vintages by the bottle and 100 by the glass, in addition to five specific flights.

A retail area offers the wines as well as glassware and accessories.

Vertical Detroit has been open for three years and is located at 1538 Centre Street in the former Henry Clay Hotel in downtown Detroit’s Paradise Valley district. The historic building was renovated and today is The Ashely apartments.

Restaurant hours are 4-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 4 p.m.-12 a.m. Friday-Saturday, and 4-9 p.m. Sunday.
