DETROIT, Mich., Feb. 25 – The Michigan Production Alliance (MPA) and award-winning producer Larry Meistrich of NEHST Studios are partnering with Wayne State University to host an intensive “Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp” on March 6-8 in WSU’s State Hall, Room 106, at 5143 Cass Ave. (Parking across from State Hall in the structure at the Corner of Cass and Putnam.) Meistrich will lead the training, while offering critical insights about the future of filmmaking in Michigan and opportunities for students to join Michigan’s emerging “crew” and “talent” infrastructure.
Wayne State, a nationally recognized incubator for top acting and “above-the-line” creative talent, is a driver of workforce development for the film industry in Michigan. In addition to hosting intensive training sessions like the “Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp,” the university offers student actor workshops and lectures by industry experts in cooperation with the Screen Actors Guild.
“This boot camp is one of many opportunities for our students to develop the skills they need to secure – and be qualified to perform – jobs in the feature film industry,” said Sharon Vasquez, dean of the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. “We continue to look at new ways of expanding our academic offerings to meet the growing demand for education in this area.”
The “Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp” will provide attendees with guidelines on how to write, produce, cast, direct and sell their own feature films. Meistrich will offer practical advice for working effectively with movie industry executives and will explore creative marketing, Web distribution and other strategies for successful entrance into the field.
NEHST Studios is actively seeking scripts and film talent to fill a slate of upcoming productions. At the event, Meistrich will hold one-on-one pitch sessions for filmmakers and writers who wish to present their best script/story idea for financing and/or production consideration.
