Dr. M. Salim Siddiqui of Wayne County, a board-certified radiation oncologist, was installed as the new president of the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) during the 158th annual meeting of the MSMS House of Delegates in Dearborn on April 22.
“It is a privilege and an honor to be inaugurated to serve as the 165th president of the Michigan State Medical Society, an organization that has not only made tremendous contributions to the health and well-being of Michigan citizens, but also, works each and every day to improve the lives of physicians, so they can best care for the people they serve,” says Siddiqui. “Since its founding, this society has been committed to physicians and protecting our sacred physician-patient relationship.”
The MSMS provides the state’s doctors with the tools and support they need improve the lives of their patients and communities. It also provides doctors with a voice to advocate for their fellow physicians, patients, and communities..
A graduate of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Siddiqui will serve a one-year term as leader of the society. Prior to his term as president, Siddiqui served a one-year term as president-elect. He also served two two-year terms as the young physician representative to the MSMS board of directors, a position he was first elected to in 2015 and then again in 2017.
Siddiqui is a member of the Henry Ford Medical Group and is affiliated with Henry Ford Health. He served as president of the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan (WCMSSM) from 2019 to 2020 and currently serves on the WCMSSM board of directors.
The Michigan State Medical Society is the statewide professional association representing physicians and medical students in Michigan and is affiliated with the American Medical Association. Physician policies on various issues involving public health, health care delivery and medical ethics are set at the annual MSMS House of Delegates meeting.
