Village Green Purchases Detroit’s Millender Center Apartments

DETROIT — Village Green, a privately-owned, Detroit-based luxury apartment owner and operator, continues to expand its investments in the city of Detroit with the purchase, renovation and repositioning of Millender Center Apartments. The community will be rebranded to align with Village Green’s City brand. Millender Center Apartments will be renamed during the first year of renovation and repositioning.

The 338 luxury one and two bedroom apartments will feature three different finish options, common area improvements and brand new resort-class amenities and 24/7/365 concierge providing time-saving services. All new finishes and additions will incorporate green building standards.

Village Green, with private investors including Ann Arbor-based First Martin Corp., purchased the building, with Wells Fargo providing the construction financing.

“Our company began in Detroit in 1919, building single-family homes as Joseph Holtzman Homes,” said Jonathan Holtzman, grandson, chairman and CEO, Village Green. “Today’s Village Green continues to invest in the City where we began three generations ago. With the purchase and repositioning of Millender Center Apartments, in the heart of Detroit’s Financial District, we will be increasing our investment in our core business of luxury City branded apartments.”

Joseph Holtzman Homes, later known as Holtzman & Silverman, historically built single-family homes, shopping centers and apartment buildings in Detroit. Past developments and partnerships include Riverfront Apartments, Williams Pavilion, Virginia Park subdivision and the historic Fyfe Building. Village Green is an owner and operator of Detroit City Apartments in Grand Circus Park in downtown Detroit.

Millender Center Apartments will feature a 33rd floor Sky Park with outdoor patio, indoor pool and spa, business center, conference room, professional fitness center and yoga studio. The outdoor Sky Park includes a fireplace, gourmet kitchen, water feature, outdoor movie theater and multiple sunning and entertainment areas. The building is connected to the sky walk system to the Renaissance Center and Detroit City Hall, as well as a Detroit People Mover station.

“Wells Fargo is committed to meeting the needs of the communities it serves and to being an environmental leader,” said Jim Celeski in Commercial Real Estate at Wells Fargo. “This project mirrors both of those visions, and we are very excited to partner with Village Green Holdings to provide the financing for the acquisition and renovation of Millender Center Apartments.”

The apartment views overlooking the Detroit skyline, Belle Isle and the Detroit River, along with its location within Detroit’s Central Business District, allows residents to conveniently walk to work, restaurants, recreation and entertainment.

“The new generation of renter’s lifestyle includes urban living, and that’s not just limited to some of the important American cities” said Holtzman. “Downtown Detroit, we believe, will again return to a place of importance like in the past, as demonstrated by the significant investment made recently by both private and public companies.”
