Pam Turkin, a marketing executive, got the entrepreneurial bug in 2008 when she started baking cupcakes in her kitchen using one mixmaster and six pans — she sold the desserts to family and friends. The following year, trading in her home business for a commercial kitchen, she found herself with too much inventory so she posted a sign in the window and sold $65 worth of cupcakes. Turkin and her family have since launched Just Baked in Livonia, which today has 17 locations, 40 bakers, and produces 2.5 million cupcakes a year.
