Varnum Names Corporate Attorney to Detroit Office

GRAND RAPIDS — Varnum has named business and corporate attorney Matthew W. Bower as counsel to the Grand Rapids-based law firm’s Novi office.

Bower’s practice focuses on the area of general business and commercial transactions with particular emphasis representing technology, Internet, and software startup to mid-sized companies. He also practices intellectual property law, specifically copyright, publishing, and licensing.

Bower is a frequent presenter on intellectual property matters and is the author of several published articles on Internet law. He serves on the board of directors of the Michigan Youth Arts Association and serves on the advisory committee for ArtServe Michigan’s Lawyers for the Creative Economy Program, where he also serves as a volunteer lawyer.

Bower received his law degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York, N.Y. where he was the editor-in-chief of the school’s intellectual property law journal. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Theatre from the University of Michigan. He practiced law in New York and most recently with a Michigan firm prior to joining Varnum.
