Grand Rapids-based Varnum has announced that attorney Julia A. Perkins has been re-elected to the Detroit Bar Association board of directors.
Perkins has been a member of the association since 2016 and held her position on the board since 2017. She leads the Varnum family-law team, working with clients in family law matters such as divorce, child custody, child support and parenting time matters. Additionally, she has experience with international custody cases and valuation and division of high net worth marital estates, while also being a certified mediator with a focus in family law.
Outside of her practice, Perkins is an adjunct family-law professor at Detroit Mercy Law. She also serves on the advisory committee for Kids-Talk Children’s Advocacy Center for abused and neglected children, as well as serving on the city of Canton’s planning commission.
The 30-member association board meets monthly to provide leadership for the members and serve the area’s legal community through networking, practice development, and community service. The association is the oldest in Michigan and one of the three oldest in the country.
The annual Detroit Bar Association meeting, “Raising the Bar 2020,” was held virtually on Aug. 13. The meeting recognized new members and those who have shown exceptional dedication to the outreach and growth of the law within the Detroit bar and community.
