University of Phoenix Detroit Campus Appoints New Director of Academic Affairs

SOUTHFIELD – University of Phoenix Detroit Campus has named Bonnie Ellis, Ph.D, as director of academic affairs. In this role, Ellis will oversee academic affairs activities, including faculty, curriculum, assessment and academic guidance for the Detroit Campus.

“Education, especially lifelong learning, has always been my passion,” Ellis said.

Prior to becoming the director of academic affairs for the Detroit Campus, Ellis was the campus college chair for the College of Humanities and oversaw the College of Education at the Detroit Campus. During her time there, she developed the campus’ assessment program and spearheaded the University’s first Center for Learning Assessment and Development. 

Ellis’ career with the University began in 2002 when she became an online faculty member teaching courses for the Colleges of Arts and Sciences. In 2007, she was elected to the Advisory Board for the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and has served on the Faculty Council for the College of Humanities since 2009.

As a subject matter expert in communication, she has written and revised curriculum, conducted programmatic assessment, and most recently helped to develop the journalism concentration for Bachelor of Science in Communication degree program. 

“Bonnie’s experience and dedication to education makes her a tremendous asset to the University,” said Campus Director Jan Cardwell.

Ellis’ academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Education, Communication, and Curriculum and Supervision as well as her M.A. in Communication from The Ohio State University. Her B.S. in Education is from Bowling Green State University.
