University of Phoenix Detroit Campus Appoints Kevin Walsh as Chair for the College of Humanities

SOUTHFIELD—University of Phoenix today announced that Kevin Walsh has been named Campus College Chair for the College of Humanities for its Detroit Campus. In this role, Walsh will oversee all academic activities for the Detroit Campus College of Humanities including faculty, curriculum, assessment and academic guidance. He also has oversight for the College of Education.

“Humanities are an important element in a well-rounded education and I’m excited to take a leadership role in bringing this important subject matter to our students,” Walsh said. “University of Phoenix is committed to providing a quality educational experience, both online and at our physical locations around the Detroit area, and I look forward to contributing to this important mission.”

Prior to becoming the Campus College Chair, Walsh was an instructor for University of Phoenix College of Humanities since 2010. He is also founder of the video productions curriculum and studio at West Bloomfield High School where he taught from 2000-2012. In 2006, he published Video Direct, a national-selling text of secondary video and film production. He is currently president of Digital Arts, Film and Television, a non-profit organization that sponsors the Michigan Student Film and Video Festival at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Walsh’s educational career began in 1987 as an English teacher at Royal Oak Dondero High School. He also served as the Workplace Program Coordinator for Royal Oak Dondero from 1993 to 1995, acting as the liaison between the school and the Skillman Foundation. Walsh has a master’s degree in English from Oakland University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Notre Dame University.

“Kevin has been an outstanding educator here at University of Phoenix and as a high school teacher,” said University of Phoenix Detroit Campus Director Jan Cardwell. “We look forward to his contributions to our students as he assumes a leadership role in the College of Humanities.”
